Mitsuri Kanroji was one of the nine pillars introduced in The story of Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba and from her full-on introduction in chapter 100 during the swordsmith arc to the final chapter of the series, she manages to play a role during every major arc in one way or another, and even though she may not look it on the surface.

Mitsuri is actually physically on par with some of the strongest members in the demon slang core, thanks to her body, having a strange muscular composition about it, which allowed her to create an extremely unique fighting style, though, before we get too deep into that, we Should discuss the meaning behind her name and design? Mitsuri Kanroji is a strange name on the surface but ultimately works well with the naming conventions within Kimetsu no Yaiba as her family name roughly translates to the honeydew temple or sweet, do temple and is likely in reference to the Honolulu temple.

Which is a massive temple-like structure Built into the side of a mountain and suspended 260 feet in the air by a single wooden pillar and is considered somewhat of a marvel of architectural design. The temple's connection to difficult relationships and being supported by a single unassumingly strong pillar seemed to be referenced in Mitsuri's own backstory, and her eightfold body, as ever since Mitsuri was born. She'S had a special biological condition where her muscles were eight times denser than the average person. This basically means her muscles would fold themselves much like how you fold the steel of a katana, and this made her rather slim but extremely powerful and made her body. Incredibly, durable to the point that she could take serious punishment without breaking, which is likely in reference to the single pillar that supports the whole structure of the Honolulu temple.

Along with this, thanks to her muscles being dense, but not bulky, she was also extremely agile and flexible as well, though, because of all these superhuman abilities and her weird hair color. She was seen as an undesirable woman for marriage, as no man wanted to pass. These genetics down onto their descendants or be seen with a wife who was stronger than them cowards. Thus, because of this, she would experience a lot of self-confidence issues throughout most of her life, especially with relationships, the type that the ganlu temple would assist with, though the final reference to this temple is found within her given name Mitsuri, which the Mitsu portion of her Name is likely in reference to the painter kunishiro mitsutana mithitana was a businessman turned slightly famous painter when he became one of the first people in okiyama who painted in a western-style one of the paintings that he did was the kanroji temple, which is the Japanese Name for the ganlu temple. Mitsutani also became the kind of painter that he was because he enjoyed the western style things more than the Japanese style of things and even went to things such as the Europe exposition universal and was trained by famous European painters such as jean-paul Lorenz in aspects of Mitsutani'S western appreciation can be found in Mitsuri's own character as besides the sakura mochi that she loves.

So much Mitsuri tends to favor food that is either western or western, inspired, which also might be due to the fact that they're just high in calories as her superhuman physique, comes with the cost of a massive metabolism, meaning that Mitsuri needs to eat tons of food. To be fully nourished with her having the highest food expense in the entirety of the demon-slaying core, and it's said that she eats around 3 sumo wrestlers' worth of food normally. But it's incredibly worth it in the end because her physical strength allowed her to create a whole breathing style unique to her and only her this being the breath of love, slaying style, which is a style built off of the Rengoku family's own breath of flame. As love is considered fiery energy found within everyone, so it makes sense that it would be built off the flame style and, as we know, the breath of flame style utilizes, quick strikes and distance clearing attacks, but these are taken to their extreme with the breath of love. It expands and focuses on using Mitsuri's own unique physical abilities to raise the skill floor for the slaying style even higher, to the point that she is given a very unique Nichiren for this specific slaying style, though unlike Shinobu or Gyomei Himejima, which have their weapons uniquely customized.

To match their disabilities Mitsuri's sword was designed to bring out her full ability. This being her love sword Nichirin as her love sword, is a special whip-like katana that was specifically made for her to keep up with her utter speed in her attacks as her breathing style has the fastest techniques in all of the demon slang core and can only be used by her thanks to her special body, with the blade itself being a lightish pink color the blade's hand.

Handguard also contains a clover-like shape on it, where each petal on the clover is a heart which the design itself has also seen again in her messenger. Crow as well, even her slayer mark seems to be designed behind this symbol with two of the petals in the slayer mark version being replaced with angel wings or leaves of some sort. This design could be in reference to the wooden sorel or the katabami, which is a clover-like plant that has three to four heart-shaped petals and a legend attached to it, where, if a person were to grind a katabami leaf and polish a mirror with it, the mirror Would then reflect the face of the person they yearned for and given?

Mitsuri has a connection to love and longing for someone to marry. This would make sense, but on top of all that, the clover was used as a symbol for the katabami clan, which was an ancient warrior. The clan that went on to create a whole form of martial art called the katabami jujitsu and breath of love being a unique creation of Mitsuri may be in reference to that fact. Along with this, the blade itself is very similar in concept and design to the harumi.

While it is mostly defensive, it focuses on fluid and quick movements, which is very similar to the movement scene in matsuri's own attack forms. The breath of love has many forms of attacks in its arsenal, and they all have unique names. Though two naming themes can be seen amongst all of the attacks, either one features cat or cat-like qualities within their names, both because Mitsuri Kanroji loves cats and raises cats herself, but also it may be in reference to the senri, a mystical cat-like creature of Asian Lore, that was once a cat, but then takes on the form of a beautiful woman to seduce and lure men away, so that they can steal their vitality and energy. I assume this is mostly based on the fact that the other naming theme found in the attack memes is that they are based on intense romantic feelings, starting first with first form the shivers of first love, which is a simple attack in which Missouri dashes forward and delivers A chain of slashes this is similar in theory to the breath of flames. First style attack as well with added strikes, thanks to the blade shape and the advancement of the style.

The blade strikes are seemingly imitating the shocking. Like feeling someone gets when they first have a run-in with love, as some people describe it as a pleasurable shiver running through their bodies. Along with that, it also may refer to the shivers one might experience post-sex as all the muscles in one's body that were once tense, suddenly relax, causing chills and shivers to run down the body, though, in this case, the shivers here are a bit more fatal. Then next you have the second form, love pangs, which Mitsuri does a single curled with like crack and slash. The name itself is pretty self-explanatory, as a pang is a sudden, sharp pain, be it either physical or emotional, and the blade being cracked like a whip would cause that kind of pain, and it is likely a modification of the breath of flame second style in which The user made a circular motion with their blade, and then you have the third form cat love shower, which is an attack where Mitsuri jumps in the air and delivers a barrage of deadly slashes showering down on her opponent again.

This is probably her most straightforward attack. And then we see the fifth form, swaying, love wild claw, which is a defensive style attack in which Mitsuri would backflip away from her target while whipping her blade forward to create both coverages, but also make an opening in her opponent so that she can counter-attack. It was designed to deal with a wide range of attacks coming her way and again, it's likely, based on the breath of flame's fifth form fire tiger, which achieved a similar goal but had a smaller area of effect. The name itself is also likely referring to the fleetness of love, as in time it can move from one person to another.

Along with this, the wild claw portion is likely referring to cats and how they tend to back up before pouncing on something, and then finally, we see the sixth one, the last one that appears in the story: cat-legged winds of love, which is a move that is very similar to cat lover shower as Mitsuri attacks from a higher-up position and whips down towards her target. But the attack was also designed to be as defensive as it is offensive in a very similar manner to swaying, love, wildclaw and is likely in reference to the term. Love is like wind, you can't see it, but you can feel it. The breath of love is a slang style that suits Mitsuri so well, especially on a narrative level as she's able to convert these feelings that she's longed for her whole life into a weapon, as I previously mentioned before. Thanks to her supernatural abilities, Mitsuri was considered an undesirable woman and out of desperation for love and acceptance, she would try to change herself for the purpose of others.

She would dye her hair back to its natural color and basically starve herself eating as little as possible and feeling faint constantly. Along with this. She would even pretend to be weak, so she wouldn't attract attention to her abnormal muscle growth, though this lifestyle was slowly killing. Her and worse than that, it wasn't even working, but one day a man approached her this being the head of the Demon Slayer core kagaya, who saw right through Mitsuri facade, as he's able to see a person's true nature very well, and he told her to embrace Her abnormalities that her strength would make her beautiful and that everyone within his organization would accept her for what she was. These words are: what gave Mitsuri enough reason to join the Demon Slayer core, as it was an organization that gave her purpose and helped her begin to love herself again, because, no matter how intense or how painful the training was having a place to belong, gave Mitsuri Hope she would walk away from training with a big smile on her face.

She was basically a beaming beacon of happiness who helped motivate the other pillars in her organization, and this is why she wore her uniform with pride, even knowing that it was designed by a pervert within the organization and that she was slightly embarrassed at first until igoro. Gifted her some socks that became iconic with her design, the stripes being a visual reminder of who gifted them to her. She loved the uniform and she loved the organization attached to it, and that's why she gets a little extra angry when people judge her based on her appearance because of it. The Demon Slayer core gave her value, and thus she would put her life on the line for it be either with her moving in and physically overwhelming, an enemy, or using her superhuman strength. To just stop a demon from being able to attack.

She would continue to fight and help others improve until the Demon Slayer Corps, finally cornered muzan and she was fatally injured in the final battle with the demon. Lord himself, though, while she lied dying in the arms of the man who gifted her those socks in their final moments, the two confess to each other dying a couple and swearing, if there's an afterlife, they would meet in it and post the final battle. During the time skip, we see these two get their wish. As the reincarnations of Mitsuri and iguro become a happily married couple and run a restaurant together, it would seem like for the love pillar. The final gift from fate was the love that she longed for her whole life, not as a reward for putting up with the hardships that life had dealt her but pushing through them and making the world a better place.

Mitsuri Knroji is a fantastic character in the anime Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba. Her glowing positivity is a real standout feature of her character and I would love to see a more Gaiden-like story about her. Maybe one featuring her and Rengoku training together or an overall adventure between her and iguro as they go out and hunt down a demon.
